French - Grade 10

☰ Program Description

The Grade 10 Core French course helps students develop their French language skills through listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The course builds on students’ existing knowledge of French and encourages them to communicate more confidently in familiar situations, express personal ideas, and understand a variety of spoken and written messages.

Through interactive activities, conversations, reading exercises, writing assignments, and cultural exploration, students expand their French vocabulary, improve their pronunciation, and strengthen their understanding of French grammar and sentence structure. They learn to communicate about everyday topics such as school, family, hobbies, travel, personal interests, and community life.

At Apex Community Collegiate, the course can provide opportunities for students to use French in meaningful contexts through role-playing, group discussions, presentations, and practical language activities. Students also explore French-speaking cultures and communities, developing an appreciation for linguistic diversity and different cultural perspectives.

The Grade 10 Core French program supports continued language development and prepares students for further French studies at the high school level. It also helps build communication, listening, and intercultural skills that can be valuable in academic, personal, and professional settings.

The course can combine guided instruction, interactive language practice, independent work, and collaborative activities to help students develop confidence in French.

Students may participate in:

  • Guided language lessons: Learn vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and sentence construction through examples and structured exercises.
  • Conversation practice: Participate in dialogues, role-playing, and group discussions to improve spoken communication.
  • Listening activities: Work with recordings and spoken materials to develop comprehension and recognition of common expressions.
  • Reading exercises: Explore French texts to improve vocabulary, comprehension, and interpretation.
  • Writing workshops: Develop paragraphs, descriptions, and short texts with opportunities for revision and feedback.
  • Cultural activities: Explore French-speaking communities through stories, media, traditions, and classroom projects.

This approach encourages students to practise all four language skills while building confidence in using French in meaningful contexts.
